WHAT IS A GRAPHICS CARD 

Graphics cards are also known as video cards are the part of a computer that are responsible for generating a feed of output images to display, either to your computer’s screen or to an externally connected display (a monitor or television).

INTEGRATED GRAPHICS CARD 

The CPU of a computer comes with a graphics card integrated onto the chip, this type of graphics cards are called integrated graphics cards. As they are integrated, they require some of the computer’s RAM in order to operate, reducing the total amount of RAM available for the rest of the computer.

DEDICATED GRAPHICS CARD 

A dedicated graphics card is an entirely separate piece of hardware with its own RAM and processor specifically for processing video images and offloads this work from the CPU and system RAM. What’s nice about computers with a dedicated graphics card is that the dedicated card can be switched off when not needed to just use the integrated card, to keep power consumption of the computer at a minimum; it gives the user an option of speed or stamina.

HYBRID GRAPHICS CARD 

Computers with a dedicated graphics card will still have an integrated graphics card because an integrated card is a package deal with a CPU. The term ‘hybrid graphics’ means the computer has both an integrated and dedicated graphics cards, there is no such thing as a hybrid graphics card.

WHY ARE GRAPHICS CARD IMPORTANT 

Since integrated graphics cards need to use part of the computer’s RAM in order to operate they are not recommended for people who like to work with 3D programs, enjoy video gaming, or use a lot of design-related programs (like Photoshop). Integrated graphics cards are perfectly fine for handling light to medium computer use since they don’t use a tremendous amount so as to keep your computer running smoothly. If you prefer to connect your computer to one or more external displays, focused on image quality, and/or create graphic designs, video or photo content it is highly recommended to consider a hybrid graphics card. An integrated graphics card can run these higher end purposes but you will notice a decrease in computer speed, this is due to the integrated graphics card running from the CPU and not independently.
